Japanese Cemetery Park, Singapore - Bali
The Japanese Cemetery Park is Southeast Asia's largest Japanese cemetery and the resting place of Singapore's early Japanese community.
Japanese Cemetry Park Overview
This tranquil park will transport you to Japan with its gorgeous floral arches and endearing Japanese architecture, thanks to its well-kept, zen-like surroundings. For more than a century, this park has served as the final resting place for a variety of Japanese people in Singapore, spanning from destitute migrants struggling to make a living on the coasts to wealthy merchants and even World War II military officers. This tranquil area is much more than a cemetery, and as you explore it, you'll discover decades of history.
Initially, the gravestones in Japanese Cemetery Park belonged to Japanese escorts who never returned to their native country. After World War I, as more Japanese merchants and traders arrived in Singapore, the Japanese population prospered. Numerous merchants and businessmen were also cremated at the cemetery after their deaths, and their tombstones and memorial monuments were magnificent.
