Calicut

Calicut, now known as Kozhikode, is Kerala's largest city. Previously known as Calicut. It was established by Vasco Da Gama in the year 1948, and it is located on the south-west coast of the Arabian Sea. Calicut is certainly one of the most well-known tourist destinations in all of Kerala, and this is largely due to the allure it exudes as well as the picturesque vistas it offers.  

If you read about Calicut's history, you'll learn that the city has been ruled by a number of different dynasties over the course of its existence. It is a former capital of the formidable Zamorin dynasty and has a history as a prosperous trading town since its inception. Calico, a type of cloth that is traditionally woven by hand, is where the city of Calicut got its name, which is another interesting fact about the area.
