Amlapura , Bali - Wanderela
Capital of the Karangasem district, Amlapura is the key transport junction and town junction in the eastern Bali.
Amlapura is the capital of the Karangasem district and the most important transportation hub and town center in eastern Bali. It's easy to get to almost every part of Bali from there. Even though it is the smallest of Bali's district capitals, the different royal palaces here are worth seeing.
The name Karangasem was used for Amlapura until 1963. During that time, the Agung volcano erupted with a huge force and caused a lot of damage. This is why Karangasem was renamed and reborn as Amlapura, so that it wouldn't be linked to anything "unlucky" anymore.
The puri, which are traditional palaces, are one of the most important things to see in Amlapura. There are several places in Amlapura where you can find the northern, western, eastern, or southern puri. Still today, members of the royal family live in these palaces. The only palace that is easy to get to is the Puri Kangin, which is on the eastern end. You can also plan a trip to the old Puri Agung Karangasem Palace, where the old King of Karangasem used to live. Even though it's not one of the most popular places for tourists to visit in Indonesia, you can still plan a trip here to see the many amazing buildings.
