Nakee La

Nakee La

Overview

Nakee La, located at a height of 4769 meters above sea level, is a significant Jammu and Kashmir pass that is a formidable rival to Khardung La and other comparable ones in terms of excitement. Nakee La is the third of the five passes that must be traversed to get from Manali to Leh along the Leh-Manali Highway, located between Manali and Taglang La. The previous travelers described how dramatic it was to drive down the mountain; even experienced drivers find it difficult to navigate the uneven, rough, and off-road paths. But if you truly enjoy adventure at its highest degree, the journey will be full of thrill and excitement.Avalanches, heavy snowfalls, and other unpredictable weather conditions make it challenging to traverse the pass. There are also frequent sections of ice on the route. The area has a very dry climate, and the bitter cold makes it difficult for many to cross. While touring Leh, one frequently hears the phrase "21 Gata loops," and the ascent of Nakee La is recognized by a unique name. To complete the 23 km ascent from 4250 meters to 4980 meters, one must navigate 21 challenging hairpin turns. A further rumor about the pass is that it is haunted by the spirit of a traveler who was buried there.
